Dense and Single-Phase YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-δ) Superconductor Prepared with BaO_2

The relationship between raw materials,processing microstructure and physicalproperties for YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-δ) ceramics was investigated.Two kinds of Ba-containedmaterials were used as raw mateials,one w(?)s BaO_2 and the other was BaC_2O_4.TheYBa_2Cu_3O_(7-δ) ceramics were prepared by the solid state reaction method.Physicalproperties,such as sintering shrinkage,density,transition temperature and criticalcurrent ect were measured.The microstructures of these two kinds of YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-δ)ceramics were characterized by SEM and optical mic(?)oscope.A singlephase materialwith orthorhombic structure was obtained for this YBCO ceramics prepared withBaO_2.The carbon content of this YBCO material is low and the relative density isabout 90%.The critical current of this YBCO ceramics is higher than that of YBCOprepared with BaC_2O_4.It seems likely that high-quality,single-phase YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-δ)ceramic samples with orthorhombic structure could be made by using BaO_2 as rawmatcrial and solid state reaction processing.
