Ultrafine ZrO_2 powder was prepared by the decomposition of zirconium oxalatewhich was precipitated from soluble zirconium salts with proper amount of H_2C_2O_4or from zirconium oxalate solution with NH_4OH.It was found that the powdersobtained could be amorphous, microcrystalline and crystalline Zr(C_2O_4)·4H_2O,ac-cording to the different procedures.Metastable tetragonal ZrO_2 formed when diffe-rent precipitates were calcined at 420℃,but the temperatures at which tetragonalZrO_2 transformed to monoclinic ZrO_2 were different from one another for differentpowders obtained.Particle sizes, morphology and agglomeration states were alsoprocess dependent.Non-agglomerated ZrO_2 powder was obtained with alcohol washedpowder with its particle size equal to 20 nm at 600℃.
