Study on the Microstructures of α-Al_2O_(3(W))/TZP Composites

The fracture surfaces of TiN_(w)/TZP and α-Al_2O_3(w)/TZP composites were observedwith SEM,emphasising the investigation on the interfaces between the two kinds of whiskers andthe identical TZP matrix.Fractographies of the samples showed that week bonding strength andobvious debonding existed at the TiN_(w)/TZP matrix interfaces,which would be deterioratedwhen ageing the material at 800℃ in air as a result of oxidization of the TiN whiskers.The α-Al_2O_3 whiskers were mostly broken at the fracture surface of the samples,and a close bondingand better thermal stability were shown at the Al_2O_3(w)/TZP matrix interfaces,comparingwith the TiN_(W)/TZP interfaces.
