A Novel Microstructure and Its Effects on Mechanical Properties of TiC/TiB_2/MoSi_2 Composites

A novel microstructure of TiC /TiB_2 / MoSi_2 composite and its effect on mechanicalproperties were studied. The results indicate that hollow particles, consisting of TiC and TiB_2nanosized grains, can be formed in MoSi_2 matrix when the mixed powder of elemental Ti, B4_Cand MoSi_2 was reactively hot pressed. The bending strength of these composites with the newmicrostructure reaches at 480 MPa, and the highest fracture toughness is 5.2 Mpa.m~l/2.
