High-power CO_2 Laser Melting of Stabilized ZrO_2

Laser melting of stabilized ZrO2, which is a high-temperature fast ion conductor, by high-power CW CO2 laser beam was reported. The theory and technology of laser melting, and the microstructure analysis of the laser melted specimens were described. The conductivities of laser melted CSZ and MSZ samples were measured in the order of 2×10-2Ω-1cm-1 at 1000℃.
