Development,Application and Effects of Australian Early Development Index(AEDI)

The Australian Early Development Index(AEDI)adopted from the Canadi-an Early Development Index has been used to determine the development level of childrenenrolled in the first year of formal full-time school in Australia. The AEDI consists of fivekey components including physical health and wellbeing,social competence,emotional ma-turity,language and cognitive skills,communication skills and general knowledge. Prior tothe final national-scale implementation of the AEDI,a long-term and strict developmentand validation of the AEDI were conducted. The present-day AEDI database provides com-prehensive information of development levels of children in their first year of formal full-time school ranging from community-scale to national-scale,benefiting the development ofAustralian early childhood education significantly.
