A Review of the Studies on Sharon Olds's Poetry

Zhang Dongying;the School of Foreign Languages, Central China Normal University;
Sharon Olds(1942-) is an influential American female poet. Since 1970s and 1980s, Olds has created over 10 poetry collections, among which The Dead and the Living won the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1984, and Stag's Leap won T. S. Eliot Prize for Poetry in 2012 as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2013. This article reviews the studies on Sharon Olds' s poetry at home and abroad. The last three decades have witnessed the proliferation of the studies on Olds and her poetry abroad, but more attention should be paid to Olds' s latest works and to her works as part of the confessional tradition in American poetry. Sharon Olds and her poetry has been introduced to China only a few years ago. With only a few critical articles and some poetry translation currently, there is still great potentiality for further studies on Olds' s poetry.
