AN INVESTIGATION ON THE ISOTHERMAL KINETICS OF CRYSTALLIZATION OF A METALLIC GLASS (Fe_(0.8)Ni_(0.4))_(82)Si_8B_(10)

The kinetics of Crystallization of a metallic glass (Fe_(0.6)Ni_(0.4))_(82) Si_8B_(10) were studied by thermoelectric power(TEP) measurement, X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis(DTA). The experimental results show that the Crystallization proceeds in a two-step way. The sequence of transformation can be described as: Amorphous state→Amorphous+Cubic Fe(Si)+Cubic (FeNi)→Cubic Fe(Si)+Cubic (FeNi)+Cubic(Ni, Fe)+Tetragonal Fe_2B. The activation energies for the first and second transformations estimated from TEP and DTA experiments are 2.8eV/atom and 3.4eV/atom respectively. The changes of electric resistivity and anomalous Hall coefficient as a function of isothermal annealing duration were also studied.
