SYNTHESIS OF METHYLMERCAPTO-GROUPCONTAINING ORGANOSILICON MONOMERS

The syntheses and characterization of two new unsaturated sulfides, ω-methylmercaptoundecene and 2, 3-bis(methylmercapto)propyl allyl ether, and three new methylmercapto-group-containing organosilicon monomers, γ-(methylmercapto) propyltrimethoxysilane, ω-(methylmercapto) undecyltrimethoxysilane, and 4-oxa-6 7-bis(methylmercapto) heptyltrimethoxysilane have been described. The unsaturated sulfides were prepared from corresponding alkenyl chlorides and sodium methylmercaptide by general procedure. Three new methylmercapto-group-containing organosilicon monomers were prepared from corresponding unsaturated sulfides with trimethoxysilane in the presence of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)platinum complex as catalyst. Their structures were identified by elemental analysis, IR, ~1H NMR and MS. A possible pathway for the fragmentation of the title monomers under electron bombardment was also suggested.
