Synthesis and Properties of a Silsesquioxane Containing Macromolecular Photoinitiator

A novel hydrogen-abstracting macromolecular photoinitiator POSS(polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane)-HBP was successfully synthesized by the substitution reaction of octakis(3-chloropropyl)octasilsesquioxane(POSS-Cl)and 4-hydroxybenzophenone(HBP)and was characterized by FT-IR,1 H NMR and 13 C NMR.The photopolymerizations of 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate(HDDA)initiated by HBP and POSS-HBP were studied by the real-time infrared spectroscopy(RT-IR).Meanwhile,the effects of POSS-HBP and dimethylaniline(DMA)concentration on photopolymerization rate were also investigated,respectively.When the concentration of the POSS-HBP was 1.0%(calculated by the mass of HBP)and the concentration of the hydrogen donor(DMA)was 3.0%,not only the photopolymerization rate was faster than that of HBP with the same concentration(For complete polymerization of HDDA,HBP took 12 s,but POSS-HBP only took 8s),but also the obtained materials had the features of anti-yellowing and almost odorless.The results showed that POSS-HBP was the more efficient photoinitiator than HBP.
