Performance Improvement of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells by Nano-Au Double Shell Microspheres

Double shell Au@SiO_2@TiO_2(AST)microspheres were synthesized by liquid phase reduction method to prepare a series of composite photoanodes and dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs).The properties of the composite photoanodes and DSSCs with different content of AST microspheres were studied.The study indicates that the AST microspheres have increased the absorption of incident light in the photoanode and enhanced the short-circuit photocurrent density(J_(sc))and photoelectric conversion efficiency(PCE)of the DSSCs.When the mass ratio(m(AST)∶m(TiO_2))of the mixed AST microspheres is 1.6%,the J_(sc)and PCE of the optimal DSSC are 15.23mA·cm~(-2 )and6.70%,compared with the J_(sc)and PCE of the DSSC with pure TiO_2photoanode,greatly increased by 26.3%and19.0%,respectively.The significant improvement in the performance of the DSSC can be attributed to the joint action of the localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR)of Au and the outer TiO_2membrane shell of the AST microspheres,which can increase the amount of the dye adsorption and enhance the absorption of the light on the photoanodes,thus significantly enhance the J_(sc)and PCE of the DSSCs.
