Research on Monitoring System of Roller Compaction for Dams Based on GPS and GIS

It is very important and necessary for super-high dams to control the quality of roller compaction.The traditional approaches which are relied on artificial controls of those roller compaction parameters can not meet the current construction of large-scale mechanized operations in controlling construction quality and hardly achieving the real-time monitoring.A real-time supervisory system,with features of continuity,automation and high-precision,is developed to adapt to the quality management requirements of large-scale construction in this paper.The hardware platform,which is built based on the RTK GPS and wireless communication technology,is proposed to monitoring the quality of roller compaction for super-high dams.Subsequently,the integration development on the COM mode is discussed in details to be used to program upon ArcGIS Engine and Winsock software.Finally,the dam roller compaction construction of Pubugou hydropower station,which is the largest rolled dam construction of China at present,is set as an example to be studied.The result indicates that the monitoring system of roller compaction for super-high dams based on GPS and GIS can completely meet the need of quality control managements in large-scale civil engineering projects.
