Study on SurfaceModification of Nanometer MgO

Jiang Hongmei,Guo Renmin (College of Chemical Engineering, Northwest University, Shanxi Xi′an 710069, China)  
Nanometer magnesia particles havebeen prepared by precipitation-conversion method,in which magnesium chloride and sodiumcarbonate areused as raw materials.The optimum process conditions for the surface modification of nanometer MgO with titanate coupling agent as modifier are detemined as following:the dosage of modifier 3%~5%(weight%),time 2 h,rotary speed of ball miller 240~300 r/min.The results of the test by TEM and IR show that the modified nanometer MgO particles exhibithydrophobic characteristics,the dispersibilitybecomes better in organicsolvent and the chemical binding is formed betweennanometer MgO particles and the modifier.
