Study on oxidation of iodine ion in nature brine

Huang Lina;Hou Guangsheng;Li Baoshan;School of Sciences,Beijing University of Chemical Technology;
The oxidation behavior of iodide ions contained in nature brine to iodine was studied by spectrophotometric method with two different oxidants(0.5% Na Cl O and 1.0% H2O2, mass fraction).The optimal dosage of Na Cl O and H2O2 were determined to be 0.6 m L and 1.7 m L every 200 m L brine,corresponding to the optimal p H of 4.8 and 3.0,and the optimal reaction time of 30 min and 70 min,respectively.The excessive oxidation problems of iodine by these two oxidants were also investigated and the relationship between absorbance and excessive oxidation degree of iodine was given in this paper.
