One-step synthesis of anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker by atmospheric acidification method

Using gypsum as raw material,anhydrous calcium sulfate whiskers were prepared by one-step atmospheric acidification method.The influences of reaction temperature,time,and volume ratio of concentrated-HCl/H2 O on the product were investigated by single factor tests.Whiskers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and X-ray spectroscopy(EDS).The experiment results showed that,when the volume ratio of concentrated-HCl/H2 O was 4∶1,and the reaction temperature was controlled above 70 ℃ for 4 h,anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker can be formed with lengths of 10~20 μm and diameters of 0.1~0.3 μm.
