Synthesis of monodisperse spindle-like ultrafine calcium carbonate

Monodisperse spindle-like ultrafine calcium carbonate was prepared by carbonization method with sodium hexametaphosphate as crystal control agent.The morphology of calcium carbonate was characterized by TEM,the function of crystal control agent was discussed,and the effects of the different process conditions,including carbonizing temperature,additive adding time and adding amount on the morphology of calcium carbonate were also investigated.Results showed that sodium hexametaphosphate promoted crystal nucleation,induced the growth of calcium carbonate crystals along with the c axis,and improved the dispersion of the CaCO_3 particles.When the carbonization temperature was 40 ℃,the carbonation time was at15~25 min,and adding amount of sodium hexametaphosphate was at 1.5%~2%,monodisperse spindle-like ultrafine calcium carbonate with particle size of 0.7~1.0 μm and slenderness ratio of about 5 were obtained.
