Detecting elliptically polarized light using compound quarter-wave plate

GUO Ming-lei,HAN Xin-feng(College of Science,Anhui University of Science and Technology,Fengyang 233100,China)  
The compound effect of two quarter-wave plate is analyzed with the method of Jones matrix.The result indicates that we can detect elliptically polarized light and partial elliptically polarized light even when the direction of the long/short axis of the elliptical polarization light and the optical axis of the quarter-wave plate are unknown.The experiments show that the test results accord with the theoretical analyses.
