Measuring viscosity with falling ball method using high speed LED stopwatch and digital camera

In order to measure velocity with falling ball method,a high speed LED stopwatch was made.A digital camera was employed to record both the coordinates h_1,h_2 of two points and the readings t_1,t_2 of the LED stopwatch at the moments when the ball passing the points.The height h was obtained by the difference between h_2 and h_1 and the parallax was corrected.The time interval t was determined by the difference between t_2 and t_1.The velocity of the falling ball v was calculated.Experiments were carried out to determine the terminal velocity of the ball in glycerol and the falling process was recorded as soon as the ball fell into glycerol as well.The results showed that the repeatability of the method was very well.The method could also be used to estimate if the ball was in the uniform speed phase.
