Optimization of model of covering soil layer inside levee for Dongting Lake region by seepage FEM

According to the characteristics of geology of the levee foundation in Dongting Lake region,covering soil layer model in multi-structure levee foundation has been established;through changing the width or thickness of covering soil layer,optimization study is carried out by seepage FEM.The concepts of optimization of width and thickness of the covering soil layer inside levee are put forward;and then the results of FEM and the covering soil layer formula in Code for Design of Levee are compared.The comparison shows that the both are coincident;and FEM is an effective tool to solve the covering soil layer problem.Finally,FEM is applied to Chaishanhu section of the Zijiang River levee;and it is shown that FEM is practical and effective for the real complicated projects.
