Comparative experiments of protection material for Yangtze River bed downstream of Gezhouba Project

Operation of Gezhouba Dam had led bed degradation and decrease of water level in the dry season in the downstream of the project.In order to restrain the further development of such phenomena resulted from the building of the Three Gorges Dam which is at the upstream of the Gezhouba,countermeasures of river bottom protection were proposed.Three types of structural materials were selected in the site experiment.They were geosynthetics mattress with concrete block,rock riprap and geosynthetics tubes filled with sand.Nine months monitoring shows that the geosynthetics mattress with concrete block is the best.
