Safety study of overflow cofferdam on overburden layer

Overflow cofferdam,due to its unique way of diversion,is exploited in a lot of hydropower projects on account of its strong ability of undertaking the over-level flood,but often because of improper design,damages can be often seen.To prevent scouring and to protect the overburden layer,the scale(1∶50) hydraulic model is used to study the shape of the Gongguoqiao cofferdam and reasonable water stage in foundation pit.By comparing different shapes of the cofferdam and different water stages in foundation pit in the dam-break test;the cofferdam shape is optimized.The optimized shape can effectively dissipate the energy of water flow downstream and can undertake the relatively significant water head difference between upstream and downstream.The shape and the arrangement of this overflow cofferdam proposed by model test can also provide reference for similar projects.
