Compressive buckling of aluminum alloy plates

As for the local buckling of aluminum alloy members under compression and bending,finite element analysis(FEA) of the stability of compressive plates is performed.The design rules for stability of aluminum compressive plates in the up-to-date codes abroad are introduced.In order to confirm the veracity of finite element models,the analytical results are compared with experimental data obtained by other scholars.The parametric analysis of local buckling of aluminum compressive plates is accomplished by FEA.Thereupon the critical values of width-to-thickness ratio to prevent local buckling were provided based on the results of numerical simulations.It is shown that the restriction of the width-to-thickness ratio can efficiently avoid local buckling of aluminum plates under compression;and the proposed limit values will be suitable in the design of aluminum compressive plates.
