Mechanism of hydropower unit primary frequency regulation and cause analysis of mistaken assessment

Since the assessment of ancillary services of grid-connected power generation units was carried out,primary frequency regulations of hydropower units were often incorrectly evaluated.In order to find reasons,response of a hydropower unit to twice successive ramps of grid frequency were simulated,using hydraulic turbine regulation system model provided by PSD-BPA with the help of MATLAB,which is commonly used in power system simulation.According to the method of primary frequency regulation assessment,theory and practical action powers were calculated.In this case,assessment of primary frequency regulation could be a mistake.Further simulations and experiences showed that reset of primary frequency regulation would affect later response of primary frequency regulation.If time when grid frequency was in dead zone before next primary frequency regulation was too short,response of unit power would deviate from the ideal condition,because of influence of reset of previous primary frequency regulation,which would cause ratio of actual action power with theoretical action power to decline and correct response of primary frequency to be misidentified as unqualified.
