Influence of maternal antibodies on effectiveness of two kinds of poliovirus vaccines in the Chinese infants

To study the maternal anti-poliovirus antibodies level in two months old infants in China and to analysis the influence on vaccines' effectiveness.416 two-month old infants were immunized with oral polio vaccine(OPV) and inactivated polio vaccine(IPV),the sera of pre- and post-immunization were collected and subject to micro neutralization test.The antibody level and 4-fold increase rate were compared for two kinds of vaccines.The results showed that sera-positive rate for poliovirus in infants are 45%、38.2% and 17.5% for type 1,2,3,respectively.The GMT are 9.0、8.1 and 5.2 for type 1,2,3,respectively.The pre-vaccination status has no significant influence on GMT levels in OPV group,while in IPV group,the type 1 and 2 levels can be affected by the maternal antibodies significantly.The 4-fold increase rate and GMTR are affected by the different maternal antibody levels,with higher interference in higher maternal antibody group.The reason the high sera-positive rate in 2-month old infants is the transfer of maternal antibody,These pre-vaccination antibodies can interfere with the effectiveness of two kinds of poliovirus vaccines.
