Thermodecomposition and Reduction of Metal Oxides During the Process of Electrothermal Atomization

According to thermodynamic principles the possibility of realizing atomization for liquidus, solidus, or gaseous metals, produced by thermodecomposing and reducing with carbon 24 kinds of metal oxides, has ben investigated. Thermodynamic calculations show that foe majority of these metal oxides can be thermodecomposed or reduced with carbon to produce liquidus, solidus or gaseous metals, among which the solids and liquids can be subsequently converted to gaseous state by atomization. Only a few metal oxides can not be thermodecomposed and reduced with carbon to directly generate atomized gaseous metals.
