The Washback Effect of CET-4 Paragraph Translation Part on Learners' CrossCultural Awareness

CET-4 and CET-6 are one of the largest standardized tests, and their washback effect on college English teaching has always been a hot research issue in the language testing field. Using two classes of freshmen in the year 2014 of the Department of Research and Teaching English as Second Foreign Language, this paper compares and analyzes the testing results and answers to the questionnaire questions before and after the experiment through questionnaire and interview, thus proves the positive washback effect of newly-reformed CET-4 paragraph translation part on learners' cross-cultural awareness. Consequently, in college English classroom teaching, instead of only focusing on transmitting knowledge, teachers should change their belief and pay more attention to improving students' comprehensive proficiency in using English, especially their cross-cultural communication skills.
