Research progression of cell autophagy under ischemia-hypoxia

ZHANG Dan,WANG Haijie (Department of Anatomy,Histology, and Embryology,Shanghai Medical School of Fudan University,Shanghai 200032,China)
Autophagy is a physiological phenomenon and widely exists in eukaryotic cells. It can decompose cell's own components, such as the cytoplasm.Autophagy plays an important role in a variety of life activity. For example,it can speed up cell metabolism or have the cells obtained energy from the decomposition products under ischemia-hypoxia.Large numbers of studies have shown that autophagy promotes cell's survival in starvation. However, excessive autophagy will lead to autophagic cell death, which is also known as Type Ⅱ programmed cell death.
