Methionine sulfoxide reductases(Msr) are ubiquitous enzymes in the body.It can reduce the free oxidized methionine or that in proteins to methionine.Msr exerts multiple functions in protein repair, reactive oxygen species scavenging and protein activity modulation. There are two classes of Msrs,MsrA and MsrB,and MsrB1 was found to be a new selenoprotein(SelR).This paper reviewed the basic properties and biological role of Msr.
