Advances in the mechanisms of coronary atherosclerosis in diabetes

The incidence of coronary atherosclerotic heart disease in diabetic patients is four times as high as nondiabetic patients.In recent years,to explain the increased risk of cardiovascular disease with diabetes,several relevant mechanisms have been proposed.It includes the effect of amadori-modified glycated compounds,the formation of N-carboxymethyl lysine,the up-regulation of scavenger receptor,the excessive activation of the ubiquitin proteasome system,the endoplasmic reticulum stress,the abnormal of arginine metabolism,the activation of platelet-derived growth factor-dependent pathways,the metabolic disorder of hyaluronan and leptin.To elucidate these mechanisms will beneficial to the prevention and treatment of the coronary atherosclerotic heart disease and the complications in diabetes.
