Riserless Crankshaft Castings of Nodular Iron

This paper presents the experiment on the diesel crankshaft type 4110 in industrial condition without risers.The basic methods are:high-rigid molds,strong flasks and fastening installation;the principle of simultaneouss solidification and iron composition near the eutectic point is also applied.In the exporiment satisfa- ctory results are obtained,the basic of which are:the centerline shrinkage is entirely eliminated,the mechanical properties of the crankshaft itself are greatly increased,especially the unnotched impact strength can be increased some times;and casting yield approaches nearly 80%;dimentions of the crankshaft decrease in dry- sand molds,but increase frequently in green-sand molds.The usual model making, in which the linear shrinkage of nodular iron castings in green-sand molds is always taken as 1%,is not expedient.The better practice is to produce crankshafts of middle sizes in dry-sand molds.
