Influence of Ellipticity of Journal Bearing on Vibration Response of Rotor During Acceleration Process

An ellipticity adjustable journal bearing structure is proposed to solve the problem that the conventional fixed-bearing bearings cannot adjust their parameters under different working conditions.Following the principle of mechanical transmission,this structure applies active control to the fluid bearing,so it can adjust the bearing ellipticity according to the actual vibration of the rotor at different rotation speeds.By changing the thickness of the oil film to suppress the vibration of the rotor,the vibration amplitude of the rotor is always in the safe range during acceleration process.The rotor bearing system model is established by finite element method and then the dynamic response of the rotor acceleration process is evaluated.The influence of the ellipticity on the vibration response of the rotor acceleration process is revealed by changing oil film thickness of the ellipticity adjustable bearing.The results indicate that the rotor behaves as a flexible rotor system when it passes the critical speed,and lower ellipticity facilitates suppressing system vibration due to the smaller stiffness and damping.The rotor behaves as a rigid rotor system when the rotor operates away from the critical speed,and higher ellipticity facilitatessuppressing system vibration due to the larger stiffness and damping.
