A Study on Purlfication of Nickel Polluted Water by Hyacinth

Under laboratory condition,the purifying function of hyacinth to Ni-polluted waste water and the nickel poisoning effect on hyacinth vegetation were studied.The purifying function of hyacinth to Ni-polluted water was so effective that 41-69% of Ni were dispelled by hyacinth alone in 20 days when the Ni content was 1-10ppm.The absorbed nickel in hyacinth was much more in roots than that in stems and leaves. There were visible promotion of plant growth as weal as its dispelling effect of Ni when COD100mg/L in waste water,and there is little variance between plant growth in the waste water containing Ni of 1-5ppm and plant growth in water without Ni。But when the Ni content was 10-40ppm,plant growth was obviously inhibited—the colour of the young leaves turned into yellow and the mature leaves were dead.The above data show the appropriate range of nickel content in waste water that suitable for hyacinth vegetation.
