QUALITY DIAGNOSIS OF THIN COMPOSITE PLATES BY DAMPING AND MODE SHAPE MEASUREMENTS
Lin Dunxiang R.D.Adams
As a complement of expensive nondestructive testing technique (NDT), the quality diagnosis of thin composite plates by damping and mode shape measurements is presented. The principles of vibrational NDT are briefly introduced. The damping measuring techniques to obtain the results accurately are presented. Some particular problems encountered in measuring the damping value of thin composite plates, such as nonlinearity, beat and crowed modes are discussed. For the examples, correlated with their manufacturing quality, the results of damping and mode shape measured of thin mica-based composite plates are discussed.
