CALCULATION OF THE SUPERCRITICAL FLOW DEPTH AT THE BUCKET AND BUCKET RADIUS OF OVER FLOW DAMS

Based on the energy equation of rapidly varied steady flow, the flow of spillway flip buckets is analysed. A synthetic parameter (q/R(gE_0)~(1/2)) and some simplifying conditions are introduced, also, formulas for caloulating the supercritical flow depth at the bucket of overflow dams are derived. The results computed by the formulas are in good agreement with those obtained by the model tests for overflow dam and prototype observations for the wujiangdu water Power Station. The criterion that at the minimum Of bucket of overflow dam the water is deepen immediately while the flow coefficient decrease immediately is suggested. Correspondingly, a formula for calculating the radius of bucket is obtained.
