EFFECTS OF SYNTHETIC DIET WITH DIFFERENT SELENIUM (SE) LEVEES ON COLLAGEN METABOLISM IN RATS

Mo Xiaoyan Zhang Shiyuan (Research Laboratory of Endemic Bone Disease)
A Positive correlation between the contents of urinary hydroxyproline (HyP) and blood Se levels was found in rats fed synthetic diet containing different Se levels. The experimental results indicate that Se deficiency does a effect the collagen metabolism and reduce the urinary HyP excretion. The change of urinary HyP in this animal experiment is similar to that of the children with Kashin-Beck Disease (KBD), suggesting that the Pathogensis of KBD may redate to a Se deficiency.
