Aim To investigate the helper T cell response to an epitope within the NS3 domain in two chronic HCV carriers and one self limited patient. Methods HLA type was determined by serotyping technique. An epitope(amino acids 1248 to 1264) was synthesized according to computer analysis and published articles. The epitope was analyzed within 34 HCV complete sequences in GenBank. Results The epitope was highly conserved in all sequences except that one amino acid difference was found in four sequences respectively. The HLA typ wasn't same in three patients. The levels of proliferative response to this epitope by PBMC from all three patients was higher than those from normal control. Conclusion The response to the epitope within HCV NS3 domain may not only have relationship to self limited course of HCV infected patients, hut also to the disease condition of chronic HCV infected patients.
