Expressin of oligodendrocyte myelin glycoprotein in motoneurons of rat facial nucleus following facial nerve transection

AIM:To study the changes of OMgp activity in motoneurons of rat facial nucleus after facial nerve injury.METHODS:Healthy SD rats were used in this study.Facial nerve transection was performed at left stylomastiod foramen.The animal survived for1,3,7,5,14,21 days and the part of brain stem contained facial nucleus was removed.the changes of OMgp expressions in facial neurons and facial neuronal apoptosis were observed with immunohistochemical methods.RESULTS:There were OMgp-immunoreactivity(IR)in normalfacial nucleus.Immunoreactivity analysis showed a down-regulation of OMgp expression in the facial nucleus 5-14(protein)days after transection.Facial nerve axotomy resulted in the changes of OMgp expressions and facial neuronal apoptosis.the content of OMgp under image analysis was decreaced compared with control group(P0.05).CONCLUSION:OMgp might participate the process of apoptosis of the facial neuron induced by facial nerve axotomy.It suggests that OMgp may play a regulational role in facial nerve regeneration.These findings suggest a possibility that the change of neuronal OMgp expression might be involved in reconnection of neural circuit between axotomized facial neuron and upper motor neuron after transection.
