Study on Thermolysis Process of Yttrium Nitrate Hydrates

The thermal decomposition of Y(NO3)3 nH2O (n=5,3) has been studied with TG-DTG. The reactants, intermediates ,and end-products have also been characterized by IR. It was found that the reactants undergo a series of decomposition stages, the infermediates are lower hydrates, anhydrous and basic yttrium nitrate, respectively, and the end-products are the oxide, Y2O3. In addition, the kinetic study on some dehydration of the compounds was carried dut. The apparent active energy values of dehydration were calculated with Kissinger method by means of TG-DTG curves at different step-up tempirature rates.
