The Fine Structures of the Stridulatory Furrow of Chinese Peiratiae and Their Significance in Taxonomy(Hemiptera:Reduviidae)

Scanning electron microscopy was done on the stridulatory furrow structures of Chinese Peiratinae. The evidences indicate thati (1) all the 5 genera studied(.Phalantus Stal, Eciomocoris Mayr, Lestomerus Amyot et Serville, Peirates Serville, and Sirthenea Spinola) have a stridulatory furrow, and can be divided into 3 types) (2) different species have different stridnlatory furrow structures in shape, number of transverse striae, and transverse striae themselves) (3) they exhibit sexual dimorphism)(4) the stridulatory furrow structures are very useful in distinguishing closely related species but of little use in taxonomic studies of the generic level.
