Actiological Study of the Root Rust Rot Disease of Panax quinqucfolium

8 species and a variety of the genus Cylindrocarpon were obtained from seeds , diseased roots of Panax quinqucfolium and soil samples of ginseng field in Qinl-ing , Bashan Mountain area and the Central Plain ofShaanxi Province. Among them C. destructans (Zins.) scholtcn, C. obtusisporum (Cook Harkcss) Wollcnw, C. vaginae C. Booth , Y. M. Clayton Mu Ushcrwood and C. victoriac (P. Hcnncn ex wr.) Wollcnw. arc the causal agents of the root rust rot disease of American ginseng. C. destructans is one of the most virulent pathogen and wide spread. C. obtusisporum lakes the second position. The last three of the four species mentioned above and C. n(Harling) Wallcnw. C. hetcronema (Berk Br.) Wollcnw. C. decumbcns Wolltcnw. and C. destructans (Zins. ) SchoUcn Var. crasum Wollcnw. arc new record species for China. The scientific name of the main pathogen of the disease was discussed.
