A study on diagnostic performance of PCR test for the first void urine to detect female gonorrhea

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic performance of PCR test for the first void urine(FVU)to detect female urethral gonococcus infection Methods Endocervical and urethral swabs and FVU were collected from 504 females visiting STD clinics All specimens were detected by PCR The performance of FVU-PCR test was estimated by the results of PCR with urethal swabs Results Fifty two cases of gonorrhea and 31 cases of urethral gonococcus infection were detected PCR identified 30 cases of gonococcus infection in FVU Four cases were negative by PCR with urethral swabs,but proved to be positive by FVU-PCR The sensitivity and specificity of FVU-PCR were 96 8% and 99 1% respectively Conclusion The assay of FVU-PCR is sensitive and specific for the diagnosis of female urethral gonorrhea
