Extraction and purification of the lectin from potato tubers

The extraction and purification of potato lectin (2. 2 kg) were described. The acetic saltbuffer was used as extracting solvent. The extract was chromatographied with DEAE-cellulose column,CM-cellulose column, G-150 dextrane gel and 6B dextrane gel. The precipitation was dialysed in water andfreeze-dried. The general activity of the potato lectin is 491520 units and specitic activity is 6641. 89 unitsper milligram. The potato lectin was homogeneous indentified by polyamide gel electrophoresis. Asparticacid is the most abundant aminoacid in potato lectin.
