Objective To investigate the effects and mechanism of emodin on proliferation and migration of rat vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMC).Methods CCK8 assay,Western Blotting and wound healing assay were used to assess the proliferation and migration of emodin on rat VSMC,respectively. The expression of Beclin1 and LC3 were detected by Western Blotting. Results We found that emodin inhibits the proliferation and migration of rat VSMC in a concentration dependent manner. At the same time, emodin promoted cell autophagy by increasing the conversion of LC3 and Beclin1 expressionin VSMC.Further studies suggest that the autophagy inhibitor 3-MA decreased the inhibitory effects of emodin on the proliferation and migration in VSMC.Conclusion Emodin inhibits the proliferation and migration of rat VSMC through autophagy activation.
