Study on the Actual Status of the Approved Health Food Products in China

Objects:To analyze the actual status of the approved health food in China and to put forwards some opinions and suggestions concerning the involved problems in order to provide some scientific references for the benign development of health food industry and the further consummation of the concerned laws,regulations and standards.Materials and Methods:The annual totality,the function distribution,the applied frequencies of the primary materials and the related effective components,and the distribution of preparation formulations,were analyzed respectively based on the database of the approval certificate about health food,which was approved by the technique examination system from Jun.1,1996 to Dec.31,2005.Results:The number of the approved native health food in 1996 was the minimal(59)while the one in 2004 was the maximum(1503).The functions of the products were mainly focused on improving the immunity,alleviating the tiredness. and lowering the blood-fat as assistance.Medlar,pachyma cocos and hawkthorn were the most common materials that were both food and drug.Propolis,extract of grape seed and gingko were the most frequent non-herb extracts.Saponin.flavone and amylase were the most staple effective agents. Capsule(37.71%),pill(19.35%)and peroral liquid(11.64%)act as three dominant kinds of preparation formulations.Conclusions:The quantity of the approved products was large(8684),whereas there were many involved problems,such as low scientific level,low-level repeat,and asymmetric distributions of the function and the materials as well as the preparation formulations.It is necessary to consume the laws concerning the health food,enhance the fundamental research work,and guide non-government departments to play positive roles.so as to promote the continuable development of the industry.
