METHOD AND AXAMPLES OF MAKING MAPS OF WORLD RECONSTRUCTION BYA MICROCOMPUTER

A series of world reconstuction maps of Palaeozoic continents have been made by the use of an IBM/PC-AT microcomputer. There are three different steps in the task. They are: (1) geologic delimitation of the boundaries of each palae-ocontinent, (2)necessary fitting, and (3)relocation of the palaeocontinents. The first step depends merely on the geologic judgement and the last two steps involve a new composite application of the problem of Euler's poles and Euler's rotations in plate tectonics geometry. The authors have developed a FORTRAN programs to handle the problem. With the help of Auto-CAD the programme automatically produces reconstruction maps of several different kinds of projections. In this paper, methods of making the reconstruction maps are described and the speciality of reconstructions in the Palaeozoic are diseussed. At the end, world reconstruction maps of diferent projections in the Devonian and in the Sinian Periods are given as examples.
