An efficient pyramidal color image segmentation method with fuzzy clustering

An efficient segmentation method based upon fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering prin- ciples is proposed. The approach utilizes a pyramid data structure for the hierarchical ana- lysis of color images. The feasibility of the method is evaluated using a color image. The re- sults show that the computational time with our algorithm is about one-thirteenth that with FCM clustering algorithm for the color image segmentation without the pyramid data structure.
