A user authentication scheme based on the modified ElGamal signature

This paper presents an efficient authentication and key distribution protocol for a digital mobile network, based on the modified ElGamal signature scheme and Rabin public key cryptosystem. In comparison with the existing protocol, the new protocol has the following features: (1) As the modified ElGamal signature scheme is used, the computing load in the user provision period is reduced; (2) In the real time call setup period, the computing load on the network side is reduced; and (3) The private key cryptosystem is not used in the protocol, and thus the cost can be reduced. The results of analysis show that the protocol has not only lower computing complexity, but also higher security.
