Liquid-Phase-Sintering of Alumina and the Sintering Kinetic Analysis

The effect of codopant CuO+ TiO2 on the sintering and microstructure of alumina ceramics and the sintering kinetics during liquid- phase- sintering were investigated. The dopants significantly enhanced densification and when the mass ratio of CuO/TiO2 was 1/2, alumina ceramics obtained highest relative density. The densification rate increased significantly with increasing liquid volume content. The dopants made the grains fine and the grain size was equiaxed. The sintering kinetic was investigated through isothermal sintering and the results indicate that the densification maybe controlled by diffusion of Al3+ and O2- in the liquid phase.
