Objective To explore the effect of removed olfactory bulb on learning and memory abilities of the Vascular Dementia(VD)rats. Methods VD models were established by 4-vessel occlusion.Morris maze tests were conducted for valuating the learning and memory abilities. Results Compared with control group, the escape latency in 6 days significantly prolonged in VD model group(P0.01).Compared with VD model group, the escape latency in 6 days significantly prolonged in removed olfactory bulb group(P0.01).No significant differences were found between VD model group and VD model plus removed olfactory bulb group(P0.05).Conclusion The effect of removed olfactory bulb lightely decreased learning and memory abilities of VD rats. The effect of removed olfactory bulb combined with cerebral ischemia seriously decreased learning and memory abilities of VD rats.
