urpose〕To investigate the aberrant methylation of the 5′CpG island in p16/MTS1 gene in human colon carcinoma.〔Methods〕Fourty eight human colon tissue specimens, including 28 colon carcinoma and 20 tumor adjacent tissue specimens, were examined by methylation specific PCR(MSP).〔Results〕32%(9 of 28)colon carcinomas were found aberrant methylation in 5′CpG island, but negative in 20 tumor adjacent tissues.〔Conclusion〕These data suggest that methylation of 5′CpG island in p16/MTS1 gene may play a role in the progression of human colon carcinoma.
